Demi Moore, 61, opened up about her ex-husband Bruce Willis, 69, during her appearance at the 2024 Hamptons International Film Festival on Sunday, October 13. The event, which honored Moore with the Career Achievement in Acting Award, provided an opportunity for the actress to reflect on Willis’s health. In February 2023, Bruce’s wife, Emma Heming Willis, shared the news of his diagnosis with aphasia, a condition that affects speech and language abilities.
“The disease is what the disease is. And I think you have to be in real deep acceptance of what that is,” Moore said at the festival, according to People. “But for where he’s at, he is stable.”
Moore, who was married to Bruce from 1987 to 2000, and shares three daughters—Rumer, 36, Scout, 33, and Tallulah, 30—with him, spoke further on her perspective. “What I always encourage is to just meet them where they’re at. When you’re holding on to what was, I think it’s a losing game,” Moore explained to the crowd. “But when you show up to meet them where they’re at, there is great beauty and sweetness.”
Her words emphasized the importance of acceptance and being present in the moment, a sentiment she shared with the audience. Rather than dwelling on the past, Moore encouraged embracing the current reality and finding joy in the small, meaningful moments.
As Bruce Willis continues to manage his condition, Moore’s approach to supporting him reflects a deep understanding of the challenges that come with such a diagnosis, showing resilience in her ongoing commitment to their family and the shared experiences of their lives.
